No Struggle? No Progress.

Dreams

It’s been a month or so since I’ve last attended church, but my fiancee’ and I were determined to go this past Sunday. It’s selfish of us to believe that God will speak to you and you only every Sunday that you step into the sanctuary, but I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older that the message isn’t always meant specifically for me. Sometimes God gives us messages to pass along to the people in our lives or strangers that we spark up a conversation with in the coffee shop. Although I felt that the message that I heard this week was relevant to my life, I feel as though everyone who’s going through something in their lives need to hear it as well. Too often we decide to give up when things are hard or aren’t going the way that we expected it to go. We let our enemies, our battles, or our own thoughts destroy what could have been our blessing. When that job is going great, that relationship is thriving and our business is popping, it’s easy to stay there and continue to put in work, but that’s not what builds character and strength. It’s when your co-workers are talking behind your back, you and your spouse are constantly arguing, and no one even knows the name of your company that really matters.

When you’re at the bottom  of any situation, you know that the only place you can go is up. During a recent interview, movie director, Spike Lee, said that the best place to start is the bottom. Of course he was referencing the idea of starting at the bottom in your film career, but this information is pertinent to any situation in life. It’s when you’re at the bottom that you may feel the doubt from others and hear the mumbles. People gon talk whether you doing bad or good! (Thanks Rih) It’s true though. When you’re just starting your brand or business, people will have negative things to say. When your business is thriving, they’ll continue to hate. When you reach a certain level of success, they will try to bring you down to their level. You can’t let your enemies dictate how you see yourself. You have to always know that no enemy is strong enough to stop what God has already spoken over your life, and no enemy is stronger than him. NO ENEMY. Sometimes it’s the unexpected enemy, like your closest friends or family, but you’ve got to keep it moving. It’s too easy to give up on your business plan or quit that job. I’ve learned personally that God will take care of your enemies for you, if you let him. Besides, it’s way more fun to stay and smile in their faces when they see that they can’t break you. On the other hand, once you give up because things are tough, then the enemy has defeated you.

The enemy isn’t always a person. The thing that could be holding you back can be finances or your own self. You could be lacking the faith or ambition needed to get things done. Dreams and goals don’t mean anything if you’re cursed with laziness. The dreams are going to stay right there in your head if you aren’t willing to put in the time and effort to make it happen. We have to get through these storms and personal hindrances if we want to be the greatest version of ourselves. Michael Jordan got cut from his high school basketball team. The coaches didn’t think he was good enough for the varsity team. He could’ve given up basketball, but instead he decided to work harder, and he went on to become one of the greatest players of all time. P. Diddy got fired from Uptown Records, one of the most famous record labels. For all you kids who don’t know anything about Uptown Records, it brought us some of our favorite artists, such as Mary J. Blidge, Jodeci, and more. Diddy could have sulked and spent his time feeling sorry for himself, but instead he started his own label entitled Bad Boy Records, and we know how his story turned out. It’s always more blessings than you could ever imagine on the other side of your toughest battles, but the question is; are you willing to stand firm in the midst of your hardships? Think about what’s holding you back right now, and make the necessary steps to move past it today. Even if it’s a small step, you have to make that progress before you get trapped and let your struggles or your enemies take you under.
