Men vs Women

“As long as she thinks of a man, no one objects to a woman thinking.”

I’ve always been the type of person who believes everyone should be equal, whether they be a man or woman. When I was younger, I used to hang around my older cousin pretty often and he just so happen to be a boy. I didn’t think of myself as different from him and his friends, who also happen to be boys. I just knew I wanted to play with them. However, my grandmother would make it pretty clear that I was not the same as them. He and his friends were able to ride bikes longer than I was, they were allowed to walk to the store while I had to stay behind and while I was called into the house at around 2pm every afternoon to take a required nap, he was allowed to continue playing. When I questioned why he was able to continue to play while I had to take a nap, the response was that “he’s a boy.” I didn’t understand what one had to do with the other, but I would soon see that the world did not view men and women the same way at all. Women are not viewed equally in the workplace or in relationships. One thing I’ve never quite understood is how men are allowed free will to be whoever they want to be, but women are not allowed the same privilege. Men are able to unapologetically chase their dreams and move to places they believe will elevate them and their career, and their women will be right there continuing to support them. How many men would do the same for their woman? If we’re being honest, it’s not that many. Of course there are men out there who “say” they would accept their mate and move if they had to, but if the opportunity really presented itself, not many men would make that move. Is it that men are afraid of strong willed women? It’s like they want us to be strong, but not too strong or that’s considered unattractive or manly. Personally, I’ve ALWAYS been a person with big dreams and aspirations. I want to see the world and live my life to the fullest, but I always felt like I had to choose between love or my career. If I wanted a regular 9-5 job, love would not be an issue. However, if your dreams are too big and take you places where your mate will not always be able to go, then you’d have to chose because not many men would sit around and wait for you to get back. I know men who have cheated on their girlfriends for the simple fact that she was not around, and she was spending too much time on making her dreams a reality. Why are we put in an awkward position when we want to do extraordinary things? I know it’s not all men who feel this way. Viola Davis found her a man who let her be great! However, I still feel that most men are not comfortable when put in a position where their woman is making more money than them or has dreams that may require them to spend more time away from the relationship. You shouldn’t have to choose between the two. If you feel secure in the relationship, then you should know that nothing can break that bond.

Poetry, music, theater, and movies have always intrigued me, and all things artistic live at the core of who I am. I've always kept a composition notebook at my side at all times whether that be for journaling, writing music or writing my ideas. At some point, I realized that what I was searching for to express myself had been there all along in my writing. I hope to inspire and invoke thought into each and every one of my readers. Blessings!
