“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”—Confucius

Ohhh September. What a month this has been! Life definitely comes at you fast and unexpectedly. It’s been a little over a month since I wrote my last blog post. If you’re not living under a rock, then you know that’s around the same time the great Hurricane Harvey hit Houston. It’s really funny how much of a joke I thought this hurricane would be, but boy was I in for a surprise. Continue reading “September”

Trust the Process

“Sometimes too late is just in time.”

As I’ve said many times before, my dream of being an actress started at a very young age. I used to plan out where I want to be in my career by the age of 21. In my head, I was going to be a huge movie star who inspired young women, just like myself, to never give up on their dreams. I was going to have everything I ever wanted, and by the time I was 30, I would be at legendary status! Continue reading “Trust the Process”

Me, Myself and I

“Love yourself girl or nobody will.”

In case you were wondering, yes, that’s a line from J. Cole’s song, Crooked Smile. Simple and effective. Who’s going to love you if you can’t even love yourself? Aside from my relationship with God, my relationship with myself is one of the most important ones I will ever have. When you love yourself, you know who you are, you’re at peace and you completely let go and live. Continue reading “Me, Myself and I”

Hella Relatable

I think we can all agree that black television has been poppin’ as of lately. With shows like Blackish, Queen Sugar and Power, I feel like we all have someone on television right now who we can relate to, whereas that wasn’t always the case in the past. However, there’s one show in particular that I relate to and enjoy the most at the moment. If you haven’t seen Insecure on HBO, then you are definitely missing out! Continue reading “Hella Relatable”

Appreciate the little things.

“Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.”

How many times do you get up in the morning wishing that you didn’t have to go to work? How many times do you complain about your significant other to your friends and family? When was the last time you actually picked up the phone to call your friends and family? I know I have family members who were like brothers and sisters to me when I was a kid, but now I don’t even know them. I don’t mean “know them” in the sense of association, but actually know them as a person and who they truly are. Continue reading “Appreciate the little things.”

Be Unapologetically You

“To thine own self be true.”

As some of you may or may not know, a few months ago I worked for one of my idols father. For the handful of you who may not know, Beyoncé is that idol and I worked for her father, Mathew Knowles. It was an experience I will always be grateful for as it has taught me how to deal with people in the industry and develop tougher skin. Continue reading “Be Unapologetically You”

Men vs Women

“As long as she thinks of a man, no one objects to a woman thinking.”

I’ve always been the type of person who believes everyone should be equal, whether they be a man or woman. When I was younger, I used to hang around my older cousin pretty often and he just so happen to be a boy. I didn’t think of myself as different from him and his friends, who also happen to be boys. I just knew I wanted to play with them. However, my grandmother would make it pretty clear that I was not the same as them. Continue reading “Men vs Women”

dare to BREAK OUT

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult.”

When someone tells you that the only thing you have to do to be successful or fulfill your dreams is to break out of your comfort zone, it sounds easy, right? I mean this doesn’t SOUND like an impossible task, but in fact, it’s one of the most difficult but also most rewarding things a person can do in their life. Continue reading “dare to BREAK OUT”
